This morning we look at verses 16 & 17, where Paul develops the last phrase of v 15. We see here the supremacy of our Lord Christ over the whole created world. He is over all created things. This is a high and lofty claim. Why is Christ supreme over all things?

Title: The Image of the Invisible God
Passage: Colossians 1:15
Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin
Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service
Date: August 18, 2019
Two big overarching ideas are in Colossians 1:15-20: Christ is supreme over creation, and he is supreme over new creation. He is Lord of creation, and Lord of the church. We must remember why we are followers of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian sounds quaint unless we know the glory of Christ. Col 1:15-20 is more than fancy theological speculation. We are dealing with intense spiritual truth here. Paul speaks of Christ, for the best remedy for false teaching is to know Christ and to know him well.

The core of Paul’s prayer is in v 10a: so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him. We must walk in a way that shows the worth of Jesus Christ. We could never merit or repay the grace that has been shown to us in Christ. But having received such grace, our lives should magnify the worth of our Lord. Paul wants the Colossians is to live worthy of the grace of Jesus.

Title: Walk Worthy, Part 1
Passage: Colossians 1:9-14
Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Date: July 28, 2019
Beginning in v 9, Paul shifts gears. when he prayed for the Colossians, his prayers were filled with thanksgivings. he also filled his prayers with petitions for the Colossians. Col 1:9-14 are Paul’s prayer requests. The central idea is found in the first part of v 10; so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him. At the core of Paul’s prayer is that the church members in Colossae live lives worthy of the grace of Jesus. This is a prayer for their sanctification. Paul desires that believers live lives worthy of the grace of Jesus.
