All members of the body have a responsibility to serve in some way (John 13:12-15, 15:12-13; 1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4:11-13; 1 Peter 4:10; John 20:17, 21; Mt. 28:16-20; Ps. 150, etc.). At First Baptist, women serve as musicians, clerks, treasurers, etc., but we believe Scripture reserves for qualified men the office of under-shepherd responsible for the leading and teaching the whole congregation, as per 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1:5-9. At present, the role of pastor/elder is shared by three men elected from within the congregation.
