Unleavened, Part 1 (Worship Service, August 27th, 2017)

Title: Unleavened, Part 1

Passage: Exodus 12:42-13:16

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: August 27th, 2017

A couple weeks ago, I preached a sermon called A Memorial Day. There I described two ways from ch 12:14-27 that God wants his redeemed to respond to him: he wants us to remember our Savior and to worship our SaviorOn one level, this is a development of that sermon. The features are new, but they continue the main concern, that the Passover and Exodus is not a simply an exciting story where slaves are released, but a crucial event in Israel’s history. And in that event, the Lord gives his people Israel a blueprint for how he wants them—and through their example, us—to respond to his redemption.

The Exodus (Worship Service, August 20th, 2017)

Title: The Exodus

Passage: Exodus 12: 28-42

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: August 20th, 2017

Back in ch 6:7, we saw that the Exodus from Egypt is a plan for God to glorify himself to his people. The Lord has had his glory as his purpose for the Exodus from the outset. So, now that we have arrived at the Exodus in vv 28-42 of chapter 12, the Lord wants us to see that he is God who really does save his people. God brings Israel out of Egypt so that we would marvel in adoration at his works.

The Passover Fulfilled (Worship Service, August 13th, 2017)

Title: The Passover Fulfilled

Passage: Exodus 12

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: August 13th, 2017

The Passover of Exodus 12 is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. We have looked at the text carefully already, but now we must bring the message of the Passover forward and connect it to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Passover is a type of Jesus Christ. You need to view the Passover in relation to your own salvation through Jesus Christ. So I want to answer three questions to bring light upon the fulfillment of the Passover in Christ.

Yahweh’s Passover (Worship Service, July 30th, 2017)

Title: Yahweh’s Passover

Passage: Exodus 12: 1-13

Date: July 30th, 2017

When the plagues finally turn decisively to human death, the clear implication of the verses we read this morning is that Israel is not exempt from the deadly judgment of Exod 12. Chapter 12 teaches that the Lord’s distinction (see 11:7) is by no means arbitrary, but is based on blood, based on the blood of a spotless lamb. God’s sovereign grace of deliverance requires an atoning sacrifice.

The Limits of A Hard Heart (Worship Service, July 9th, 2017)

Title: The Limits of A Hard Heart

Passage: Exodus 10

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: July 9th, 2017

We see examples of the irrationality of unbelief in our passage this morning. Pharaoh is on his last legs. It’s clear that he is no longer in a position of strength or control. So he begins to act more and more irrationally as the plagues go on. This is one of the themes that rise to the surface as God’s judgments on Egypt draw to a close in the eighth and ninth plagues before the final great plague.

No One Like Him (Worship Service, July 2nd, 2017)

Title: No One Like Him

Passage: Exodus 9:13–35

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: July 2nd, 2017

The seventh plague, before us this morning, is the fiery hail. It is a lengthy plague. It, like the first and fourth plagues, announces an amplification of God’s original purpose for the plagues. Here the Lord gives Moses a much longer word for Pharaoh than in previous episodes. Like in the first and fourth plagues, a clear statement of the Lord’s purpose in the seventh through ninth (and tenth) plagues right at the outset. This purpose is stated at the end of v 13: so that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth. This Scripture passage is not only about God, however. It also contains important teachings of what this glorious God of the Exodus demands of all humanity. Today, I want you to see from the seventh plague four important teachings, not only about God and who we are before him.

On Giving (Worship Service, June 25th, 2017)

Title: On Giving

Passage: Exodus 8:20 – 9:12

Speaker: Dr. Eric White

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: June 25th, 2017

Introduction: Our giving on Sunday morning is an act of worship. Money, however, strongly influences us. In our sinfulness, we desire money and to keep it for ourselves. We want to spend it on things that we think will make us happy. It is no wonder that the Bible says that money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim 6:10). Moreover, the author of Hebrews admonishes us, “Keep your life free from love of money” (Heb 13:5). It may be that giving is hard for some of us here today. It may be that even when we give obediently, we feel a certain hesitation in our heart. Maybe that is you today. God wants us to give freely and not to love money. Our passage this morning provides us with two lessons about giving, that, when taken together, encourage us to give freely.

In the Midst of this Land (Worship Service, June 18th, 2017)

Title: In the Midst of this Land

Passage: Exodus 8:20 – 9:12

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: June 18th, 2017

Just as the first plague set the tone for the first three plagues, the fourth plague gives the theme of the second set of plagues. Back in 7:17, God said, By this you shall know that I am Yahweh. Now, in the 4th plague, But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, … that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth. When Egypt is affected and Goshen isn’t, God will show convincingly that he, Yahweh, Israel’s God, is the one in the midst of the land of Egypt, performing these wonders of judgment. Thereby the 4th – 6th plagues take God’s purpose in the first three plagues and amplify it. Still, the foundational purpose of the plagues is that men know that Yahweh is God. Since he is God, we ought to love and obey him. Let’s look more closely at these plagues and see how God glorifies himself in them.
