All members of the body have a responsibility to serve in some way (John 13:12-15, 15:12-13; 1 Cor. 12; Eph. 4:11-13; 1 Peter 4:10; John 20:17, 21; Mt. 28:16-20; Ps. 150, etc.). At First Baptist, women serve as musicians, clerks, treasurers, etc., but we believe Scripture reserves for qualified men the offices of leading and teaching the whole congregation, as per 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1:5-9. Throughout its history to this point, the leadership structure of this church has been the typical Baptist one of a pastor and deacons, and it may be so again. We believe the passages used to support that structure also support a multiple-elder model of leadership, and at present our elders are three men elected from within the congregation.
