On Giving (Worship Service, June 25th, 2017)

Title: On Giving

Passage: Exodus 8:20 – 9:12

Speaker: Dr. Eric White

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: June 25th, 2017

Introduction: Our giving on Sunday morning is an act of worship. Money, however, strongly influences us. In our sinfulness, we desire money and to keep it for ourselves. We want to spend it on things that we think will make us happy. It is no wonder that the Bible says that money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim 6:10). Moreover, the author of Hebrews admonishes us, “Keep your life free from love of money” (Heb 13:5). It may be that giving is hard for some of us here today. It may be that even when we give obediently, we feel a certain hesitation in our heart. Maybe that is you today. God wants us to give freely and not to love money. Our passage this morning provides us with two lessons about giving, that, when taken together, encourage us to give freely.

Baptized Into Christ (Worship Service, April 9, 2017)

Title: Baptized Into Christ

Passage: Exodus 6: 1-4

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: April 9th, 2017

In Romans 6:1-4 Paul is not teaching about baptism per se. It certainly contains teaching about baptism, but that’s not the point. The point is the impossibility of those united to Christ to live in sin. Yet Paul drew from a shared understanding of baptism to make certain points about the Christian life. Consequently, this passage is a helpful and clarifying glimpse at biblical baptism. Our text teaches about baptism, and, from baptism rightly understood, it teaches about the Christian life. The point this morning is: those baptized in Christ will live differently from those who are not.
