Title: The Benefits of the Gospel

Passage: Galatians 2:1-10

Speaker: Dr. Eric White

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Thus far in Paul’s letter to the Galatian churches, we have seen Paul describe the one true Gospel. He defined what the Gospel is and where it comes from. He also defends his apostolic ministry through the end of Galatians 1 as he narrates how the Gospel changes sinners. Galatians 2:1-10, continuing the narrative of Paul’s ministry, emphasizes two benefits believers gain in the gospel.

The Head of the Body (Colossians 1:18)

Title: The Head of the Body

Passage: Colossians 1:18

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: September 1, 2019

Christ is the head of the body. The previous verse taught that Christ is supreme over creation. Now we learn that Christ is the head of the church. The headship of Christ is parallel to his eternal preeminence over all creation. Paul is saying something truly great about out Redeemer here. This title, the head of the body, is meant to extol Christ. There is a special relation that Christ has to his redeemed, the people who comprise his church. Paul wants us to understand this, and admire Christ for it. To this end, this morning I want you to see the significance of Paul’s words about Christ.

All Things for Christ (Colossians 1:16-17)

Title: All Things for Christ

Passage: Colossians 1:16-17

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: August 25, 2019

This morning we look at verses 16 & 17, where Paul develops the last phrase of v 15. We see here the supremacy of our Lord Christ over the whole created world. He is over all created things. This is a high and lofty claim. Why is Christ supreme over all things?

The Image of the Invisible God (Colossians 1:15)

Title: The Image of the Invisible God

Passage: Colossians 1:15

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: August 18, 2019

Two big overarching ideas are in Colossians 1:15-20: Christ is supreme over creation, and he is supreme over new creation. He is Lord of creation, and Lord of the church. We must remember why we are followers of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian sounds quaint unless we know the glory of Christ. Col 1:15-20 is more than fancy theological speculation. We are dealing with intense spiritual truth here. Paul speaks of Christ, for the best remedy for false teaching is to know Christ and to know him well.

Walk Worthy, Part 2 (Colossians 1:9-14)

Title: Walk Worthy, Part 2

Passage: Colossians 1:9-14

Speaker: Pastor Ryan Martin

Service: Sunday Morning Worship Service

Date: August 4, 2019

The core of Paul’s prayer is in v 10a: so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him. We must walk in a way that shows the worth of Jesus Christ. We could never merit or repay the grace that has been shown to us in Christ. But having received such grace, our lives should magnify the worth of our Lord. Paul wants the Colossians is to live worthy of the grace of Jesus.
